Frequently Asked Questions About DIRECTV (FAQ)

If I live in an apartment, condominium, or other multi-tenant unit, can I install DIRECTV?

Ask your landlord or property manager about installing a DIRECTV® satellite dish on your building's roof or other suitable location. If you are not allowed to place the dish on the roof, ask if you can install the DIRECTV dish on your patio, balcony, or other suitable location. The most important consideration is having a clear view of the Southern sky. Your DIRECTV system installation may require structural modifications that could be limited or restricted by your lease. If that is the case, in order to avoid delays in your DIRECTV installation, please obtain written or verbal permission from your landlord or confirm permission by reviewing your lease agreement prior to scheduling your installation and document the permission using the DIRECTV Installation Permission form. Please note that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has a rule that prohibits landlords and local governments from enforcing unreasonable restrictions on the installation of satellite dishes that are one meter or smaller in size.

Will I need to pay for expensive equipment?

No, you DO NOT have to pay for expensive equipment to get the most advanced High Definition TV (HDTV) on the market. DIRECTV provides the FIRST RECEIVER FOR FREE and leases additional receivers for $4.99 per month. DIRECTV also offers FREE INSTALLATION in up to four rooms if you subscribe to 12 months of any CHOICE programming package. Order online by clicking on one of our banners or call 1-866-728-8329 to order over the phone.

What is the advantage of leasing DIRECTV equipment?

The technology used in DIRECTV receivers advances at a very fast pace. The cost of replacing your system to keep pace with these technological advances is cost prohibitive. Leasing our equipment keeps you up-to-date with the latest technological advances at the lowest cost possible. Leasing also facilitates upgrades and free replacement of receivers.

Are the monthly leasing fees different for different DIRECTV equipment?

The monthly lease fee for DIRECTV is only $4.99 per receiver, and this fee is waived on your first receiver. This low monthly fee is the same for all standard receivers, DVRs, HD receivers and HD DVRs.

If I move, can I move the DIRECTV equipment to my new location?

Absolutely! Call us at 1-866-WAY-U-MOVE (1-866-929-8668) before you actually move to take advantage of our DIRECTV MOVERS CONNECTION™, a free program for our customers who are moving and want to keep their DIRECTV service. All you need to do is take your DIRECTV equipment to your new residence and leave the dish behind at your old residence. Please note that, if you are moving to Alaska or Hawaii, you might need new equipment. If you're moving outside the United States, we are legally prohibited from offering services to you unless you are moving to a location in Latin America. If you are moving to a location in Latin America, please review our offerings for that market. Please also note that sports blackouts and your ability to receive local channels may be affected by your new address.

Can I get DIRECTV programming on more than one television set in my home?

Yes. Each TV in your home can have a DIRECTV receiver so you can watch a different program on each TV at the same time. There is a $4.99 per month fee for each additional receiver.

If I have more than one receiver, is the full monthly subscription price charged for each additional receiver?

No. You can connect more than one television to a DIRECTV receiver. The programming for your primary access card in your primary receiver is copied for all of the access cards in the additional receivers and you will be authorized to receive this same level of programming on all of these televisions! After you receive your DIRECTV programming on your additional receivers, we will verify that all of your receivers are continuously connected to the same phone line. If we find that one of the receivers is not connected to the same phone line, we will discontinue service to that receiver and you must call us to re-establish your service.

What is the easiest way to surf the large number of channels provided by DIRECTV?

DIRECTV receiving equipment includes an on-screen program guide that you can use to quickly find the programs you are looking for. You can also set up lists of favorite channels to make channel surfing much easier. Another way to easily find programs is to use channel neighborhoods that make it easy to find the type of programming that interests you. These channel neighborhoods include the following topical areas:

Programming Channels

- Pay Per View Movies and Events 100-199
- Entertainment and Arts 200-340
- News and Information 350-399
- DIRECTV PARA TODOS Channels 400-425
- Premium Movies 500-550
- Adult 594-599
- Premium Sports 600-799
- Music 800-851

Will I receive a login to my account at www.directv.com?

Yes, if you are a residential customer. However, only residential DIRECTV customers can login to www.directv.com. Commercial customers must call 1-800-DIRECTV to review their account login options.
